Doug is a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan with over 24 years of experience in both public and private projects including education, healthcare, transportation, wastewater, industrial, mining, commercial/retail, high-end and multi-family residential. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University, after completing an Associate in Science degree at Grand Rapids Community college.
His areas of expertise include planning and executing geotechnical investigations, recommendations for shallow and deep foundation systems, retaining wall design, slope stability evaluation, pavement design, helical piles, foundation underpinning, geofoam, project estimating, site drainage, contractor bid requests and evaluation, field and laboratory construction materials testing, settlement and vibration monitoring, business development, soil erosion/sedimentation control, and advanced geotechnical drilling and rock coring oversight. Some notable projects in northern Michigan include the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, St. Mary’s Cement - Charlevoix Plant Upgrade Project, New EJ Foundry near Elmira, Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor, and North Dock Improvements at Carmeuse Lime & Stone in Rogers City.
He volunteers on the Board of Directors for the Northwestern Michigan Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and is also a member of the Geo-Institute of ASCE. Doug is a voting member of ASTM International Technical Committees C09 – Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, and D18 – Soil and Rock.
